Report on Industrial visit at GBBN (Goa Broadband Network, Goa)

  • With reference to being a leading educational institute of Gujarat. We believe to run institute with industry exposure. Whatever we teach to our students as per syllabus, we just want show it practically. This event is the eminent example for the same.
  • GBBN – The Government of Goa (GoG) has embarked on an ambitious initiative to create a high-bandwidth broadband network covering the entire State of Goa.
  • Goa is a small State with an area of 1,429 square miles (3,702 square km) divided into two districts North Goa, with its State headquarters (HQ) in Panjim and South Goa with its headquarters in Margao.

  • The two districts are comprised of 11 Taluks (6 in North Goa & 5 in South) and 13 Municipalities and a total of 403 villages. The State of Goa has 2119 schools, 24 colleges, 32 government hospitals and currently 123 private hospitals.
  • The GBBN will cover all of Goa from the State HQ at Panjim up to the village level and the households. The Government of Goa intends to establish 10 Gbps connectivity from Panjim to all Districts and Taluks, 1 Gbps connectivity from headquarters of all Taluks to all villages and 10 Mbps connectivity to the households through this initiative.
  • The Department of Information Technology, Government of Goa, desires to establish the network through a combination of Optic Fiber Cable (OFC) across the length and breadth of the State up to the village level and also have wireless technology deployed where OFC connectivity cannot be given due to topological constraints. It also proposes to provide at least 1 GB connectivity to all the Government offices/educational and research institutions.
  • On very nice Thursday morning of 19th January, 2017 journey started with full excitement and passion. All students were thrilled by only glance of Persistent. The campus is located in Altinho Panaji and all events had been organized in GBBN building.
  • An event started with questionnaires of GBBN that described about its own journey from establishment to till now. All documentaries and presentation reflecting global scope of GBBN and the Department of Information Technology, Government of Goa has initiated & implemented State Wide Area Network in the brand name “Goa Broadband Network” (GBBN) connecting all the 12 Talukas, 189 Village Panchayats, 225 office buildings/termination points, around 1200 Government offices/sub offices/corporations/autonomous bodies/Municipalities, around 500+ schools/colleges/educational institutes through fiber network throughout the State of Goa.
  • Apart from the fact that the event was totally conducted in a transparent manner for knowledge sharing and aspiration manner. The organizers were really very courteous and encouraging. They really inspired students and enlighten them with GBBN campus facilities.
