• Objective of Design Lab is to create a culture of innovation throughout the State by fostering creativity and innovative imagination of students and researcher. This will also to provide opportunity and a platform to the person with the innovative mindset to work with tools and equipment to transform his/her idea into product.
  • Science, Technology and Innovation have been considered as the driver of progress in the 21st century. In order to provide an enabling environment and ecosystem for creative thoughts and ideas of young students, the Government of Gujarat has planned to establish the Design Labs, which are the conceptualized physical space in either of universities, colleges or research institutions across the State.
  • Design Lab is assigned by Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST), Govt. of Gujarat at Noble Group of Institutions (NGI) which provides a platform for the young students with creative and innovative ideas. Students and academic researcher with innovative ideas can get benefited with Design Lab, where they can easily transform their creative ideas into deliverable form, at least on a lab scale or pilot project basis. Design Labs in Science, Engineering, and Technology disciplines work as a generator of intellectual properties like patents and industrial designs.
Learning Outcomes

Students are expected to know and be able –

  • Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of electronics and electrical, robotics, open source microcontroller boards and sensors, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • Problem Analysis: Identity, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of Design Engineering Methods
  • Design / development of solutions: Design solutions for engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research – based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • Modern tool usage: Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including robotics, open source microcontroller boards and sensors to engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  • Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  • Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively on engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
  • Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.
